Semi-finished products such as plates, round rods and finished parts made of polyamide (PA) and POM
Polyamide (abbreviation : PA) and polyoxymethylene (abbreviation : POM): Sheets, rods and finished parts made of PA and POM have higher strength values than semi-finished products made of PE or PP. They are bulk plastics and can be machined to higher tolerances. Semi-finished products made of POM are extruded, semi-finished products made of PA are cast (lower-stress variant) or extruded. In addition to the standard grades, PA in particular can be modified in many ways with additives, so that desired properties are promoted (e.g. sliding behavior) and poor properties (e.g. lack of UV resistance). PA and POM unfortunately absorb water, so that an application in a humid environment would at least have to be tested.
PA / POM: The materials - technical properties
The specific weight, approx. 1.2 gr/cm³ for polyamide and approx.1.4 gr/cm³ for POM is still very low compared to many other materials. The materials are very good machinable and can be equipped with very fine tolerances.
From standards to special products
Standard color PA semi-finished products is natural or black, but special colors are possible from corresponding minimum quantities of approx. 2,000 kg. Standard color POM is white and black. Polyamide plastic sheets are characterized by a high variation possibilities : besides some standard special settings like PA 6, PA 66, also special settings like PA slippery, PA electrically conductive, PA antistatic, PA UV resistant, PA glass fiber reinforced and many more are possible.
